New Firework Law in Kentucky!  2011

The fourth of July is one of our favorite days in celebration of our Declaration of Independence on the 4th Day of July in 1776.  This year, it is a bonus celebration for Kentuckians as fireworks are now legal!  Yes, that's right!  We, the Commonwealth, are now legally able to buy fireworks, sell fireworks and set-off fireworks, right here in Kentucky.

For certain, news of the new firework laws for Louisville and Kentucky is all the buzz on the news, by the water cooler, and with just about anyone you may chat up about their weekend celebration plans for the 4th of July. There is so much excitement over our new laws for fireworks.  Just follow the rules.  Now you may ask, "What are the rules?".

Good Question!  We want to bring this information to you from the most reliable source, so our team put in a call to the Louisville Metro Police Department, on your behalf.  The LMPD told us that the overview is you must be at least 18 years old, you must be at least 200 feet away from a structure (includes commercial and residential structures), vehicle, or person, and you must not be in violation of any local ordinance.

This law is KRS 227.715 which you can read in its entirety here:  New Firework Law for Kentucky KRS 227.715.

Please take all the necessary safety precautions when celebrating with fireworks and have your local fire department number handy in case you or a neighbor needs emergency assistance.

• Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks.
• Read and follow all instructions on label.
• Before lighting fireworks, make sure that other people are out of range.
• Light fireworks on a flat surface.
• Keep water close by at all times when fireworks are being used.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July, Louisville!
