Drum Hike: Louisville Man Troy Yocum Walks
7000 Miles Across America For Military Families In Need
Walking to the beat of his own drum! - This is exactly what Louisville man and Iraq War Veteran, Troy Yocum has done with his self-less, 7,000+ mile hike across America (twice across America that is!). Troy began his journey from Louisville on April 17th of 2010, taking the first step of the near 39 million steps he will have taken when his 16 month hike brings him back home to Louisville on Saturday September 3rd.
If you are looking for some things to do in Louisville this weekend, this is definitely one. Troy calls his way of working to help raise funds for The Wish Upon a Hero Foundation, the Drum Hike. His so-named site gives more information about his journey. For much of his hike across America, Troy walked to the beat he banged out on his drum (before his neck injury in NC), to raise awareness across the country for his cause. You can imagine, how many injuries you would sustain walking America twice! And walk he did, injuries and all, raising $500,000 for American military families in need.
Below, is Troy's (approximate) schedule for his Finish Line walk, which will begin 9 miles out from the Louisville Slugger Museum:
